DESCRIPTION
I’ve lived in Paris for 15 years. And I still get that feeling every single time I walk up the hill. the sense that Montmartre operates by its own rules, on its own time. That’s exactly why I keep coming back, and why I love showing it to people who are seeing it for the first time.
HIGHLIGHTS
👀 Moulin Rouge
We begin at the foot of the hill, in front of one of the most iconic facades in Paris. The Moulin Rouge has been turning since 1889, it launched the can-can and gave Montmartre its reputation for spectacle and excess. A fitting place to start.
👨🏻🎨 Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir
Along the way, we pass through the Montmartre that artists made their own. The Bateau-Lavoir, a studio where Picasso painted his first cubist works. The winding Rue Lepic, where Van Gogh once lived with his brother. The Place du Tertre, with its painters and its chaos, and the quieter lanes nearby that most visitors never find. Those are my favourite parts to share.
🎬 Amélie Poulain
We also wander through the Amélie Poulain version of Montmartre, the one that feels like a film set, because it practically is. The café, the corner shop, the light falling a certain way down a certain staircase. It all still looks the way it did on screen, and somehow that never gets old.
📸 The final view
The tour ends on top of la Butte, at the foot of the Sacré-Cœur, with all of Paris spread out below. On a clear day, you can see for miles. After 15 years, that view still stops me in my tracks. I hope it does the same for you.
